Following the hyped-up at the London Olympics, the Paralympics began Wednesday night with a special guest star.
Dance duo performed its recent track “Where is it Going?” with the help of Stephen Hawking, the scientist whose electronic voice was used on the track, while dancers imitated colliding particles. Hawking spoke through his famous computerized voice system.
Orbital, a British electronic dance group comprised of two brothers, also performed with a group of disabled musicians on stage.
“Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Be curious,” said Hawking from his wheelchair. According to , Hawking was described by the event organizers as “the most famous disabled person in the world” and spent nine months preparing for his appearance as narrator after being approached in November last year. -Kelsey Fowler
