YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo.—The National Park Service plans to extend the existing rules on snowmobile and snowcoach use in Yellowstone National Park for another winter.

The proposal announced Friday it would continue the rules that have been in place for the past three winters. It would allow up to 318 commercially-guided snowmobiles and up to 78 guided snowcoaches in the park each day.

The park service will also reopen the comment period on the proposed long-term winter plan.

In June, the park service proposed increasing traffic to a maximum of 480 snowmobiles plus 60 snow coaches per day.

The number of snowcoaches could double in the future if they meet noise and pollution standards under the long-term plan.
