BROOMFIELD, Colo.—A small plane has crashed at an airport in Jefferson County but both people aboard are unhurt.

The North Metro Fire Rescue District says a student pilot and his instructor were practicing takeoffs and landings Sunday afternoon at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport when the aircraft failed to gain altitude.

The aircraft landed hard and flipped over, sustaining heavy damage.

The rescue district says federal officials are investigating.
