Stomp, sip a grape in Palisade
The 21st annual Colorado Mountain Winefest takes place Thursday through Sept. 16 in Palisade. This wine festival is Colorado’s oldest and largest, featuring winery tours, a Grape Stomp, hands-on demonstrations, dueling chefs and tasty samplings from 50 Colorado wineries.
Quilting in Creede
The Silver Thread Quilt Guild’s quilt show, “Mining for Treasures,” will be Friday through Sept. 16, at the Mineral County Underground Community Center in Creede. Each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be nearly 200 quilts on display, on-site quilt appraisals, handmade items for sale and even a raffle. Admission to the event is $3 per day.
History, mines, museums and a show in Leadville
Colorado Mountain College will host Explore Historic Leadville from Friday through Sept. 16. Participants can discover Leadville and Lake County’s colorful and wild past through tours of a stagecoach trail, an underground mine, a cemetery, museums, and ranch and historic buildings, plus a performance by the “Madams of Central Colorado” and dinner at the Delaware Hotel. Included is a guided tour of the Evergreen Cemetery narrated by Judge Neil Reynolds, a fifth-generation Leadville resident, and an underground tour of the Hopemore Mine. Breck is better with beer and lederhosen
The largest Oktoberfest in the Rocky Mountains takes place Saturday and Sept. 16 on Main Street in Breckenridge. This 18th annual celebration includes genuine German cuisine, traditional costumes, a keg-tapping ceremony, a 5K run, oompah and polka music, and lots of Paulaner beer.
Fall carnival in Boulder
Downtown Boulder’s Fall Fest is Sept. 21-23 and is a free weekend event for the entire family. This autumn festival features live music, a kids carnival, local food and microbrews, and more than 30 artisan booths Saturday and Sunday along the historic Pearl Street Mall.
