The city of Denver’s voted unanimously Tuesday not to approve the .

As a result of the vote, the landmark request will not move on to City Council.

The action follows a unanimous vote last week by the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission to reject the application by University of Colorado student Eugene Elliott.

The commission approved a study by its staff that recommended withholding landmark designation because of “low preservation potential,” including high levels of contamination from decades of manufacturing of automobile tires, hoses and belts at the Gates complex near Interstate 25 and Broadway.
