FRESNO, Calif. — Jon Embree is searching for a lot of answers three weeks into the college football season, nowhere more so than at quarterback.
Embree named Kansas transfer Jordan Webb his starter during training camp because he liked the decisions Webb was making in practices and he was comforted by the fact that Webb had started 19 games for the Jayhawks.
After two lackluster performances to start the season and, perhaps, to quiet the naysayers, Embree decided to give sophomore Connor Wood several series Saturday night in a 69-14 loss at Fresno State, one of the worst defeats in the program’s history.
Both quarterbacks appeared overwhelmed at times, desperately searching for an open receiver amid a flood of defenders charging through a porous offensive line.
Webb completed 5-of-13 passes for 85 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
