A Florida doctor has sued in U.S. District Court in Denver alleging that he and other consumers have been charged for services that they specifically declined when renting from Dollar.
Dr. Allen Friedman of Sarasota, Fla., claimed that last Nov. 20 he picked up a car at the Dollar facility at Denver International Airport.
At the airport, Friedman said, he declined a variety of insurance options and other services.
It was only after he got home that he discovered he was charged $215.91 for insurance he had specifically declined and $53.91 for roadside assistance that he hadn’t even been offered, according to the lawsuit, which was filed Thursday.
Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, which does business as Dollar Rent A Car, said it “denies the allegations and intends to defend the case vigorously.”
Friedman
said he is seeking more than $5 million for himself and a proposed class of consumers who have rented from Dollar.
