A timeline of the sexual abuse case against swimming coach Rick Curl:

1983—Swimmer Kelley Davies Currin says she begins an intimate relationship with Curl. She is 13, he is 33.

2011—USA Swimming receives a report in April from a former swimmer who had heard from his roommate that Curl had an inappropriate relationship with a minor female swimmer in the 1980s and that a confidential legal settlement had been reached. USA Swimming launches an investigation.

April 2012—USA Swimming identifies Currin as the alleged victim. The director of safe sport contacts Currin, who agrees to file a complaint and meets with an investigator from the governing body.

July 23, 2012—USA Swimming begins the process to temporarily suspend Curl’s membership at an emergency hearing, and to permanently ban him from membership.

Aug. 1, 2012—Curl waives his right to an emergency hearing, and his USA Swimming membership is temporarily suspended by the National Board of Review, pending a final hearing on Sept. 19.

Sept. 18, 2012—Curl informs the National Board of Review that he is voluntarily relinquishing his USA Swimming membership, waiving his right to a final hearing and accepting the lifetime ban requested by USA Swimming.

Sept. 19, 2012—USA Swimming announces that Curl has been placed on its published list of individuals who are permanently suspended or ineligible for membership.
