DENVER—It’s bath time for a giant blue bear statue that peers into the windows of the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
Crews on scaffolding and cherry pickers are removing the protective outer layer of the 40-foot-tall, 10,000-pound bear and will apply a new coat of paint during a project that is expected to last a week. The Denver Post ( ) reports the protective layer will then be reapplied.
The Denver Public Art Program commissioned the steel and concrete statue, and local designer Lawrence Argent completed the hulking bruin in 2005. It has since become an iconic landmark in downtown.
