is becoming masked — or at least, face-painted — crusaders in filing a lawsuit against the FBI. In the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment, the federal government indicated that the group’s fan base is an emerging criminal gang.
Affectionately alled “Juggalos,” the ICP fans were classified as a “non-traditional gang.” , ICP announced it would be seeking legal action against the FBI and their labeling.
On Tuesday, ICP and Psychopathic Records filed a lawsuit fighting for their fans’ rights. In the press release, other large fan groups are named, such as Parrot Heads (Jimmy Buffet fans), Little Monsters (Lady Gaga fans), Beliebers (Justin Bieber fans) and Dead Heads (Grateful Dead fans, of course). The argument, of course, being that none of those fan groups are considered a gang by the FBI.
The website, “a place for ‘los and ‘lettes to be heard,” asks for fans to contribute their stories about any negative consequences as a result of their status as a Juggalo.
Juggalo lawyer, Farris Haddad, is a legal advisor for the case. In the press release, he said, “The FBI either does not have much information backing up their labeling of Juggalos as a national street gang, or if they do, it is so flimsy they are certainly hesitant to share it — because music fans are, simply, not the same thing as a gang.”
