More proof that the fashion industry is alive and thriving in Denver: Local designer Greg Garman will show his collection Cartel Noir at Goldyn on Saturday. The Vail native dabbled in fashion while studying speech communications at Colorado State University: he and some friends had a T-shirt line that got added exposure when pieces ended up on MTV. But the approach Garman is now taking is decidedly different. He’s created an item-driven sportswear line using high-quality materials and tailoring. “I like the notion of downtown, approachable chic,” says Garman, who admires such designers as Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang and Tom Ford. “The designs that resonate with me are tailored and in luxury materials,” such as sweaters in merino wool, leather leggings, and wool and cashmere jackets. Prices start at $70, for modal T-shirts; with most items in the $240-$400 range. Garman says the bulk of the designs are sewn in Colorado. Cartel Noir trunk show, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Goldyn, 2040 W. 30th Ave. Cocktails, food and entertainment are included in the event. RSVP to kaitlinc@cartelnoir.com or 646-807-9448.
