A woman was airlifted to a hospital after a drunken driving suspect caused an accident in Brighton early Saturday morning.
About 4:05 a.m., 23-year-old Valen Fisher was driving with a passenger when the four-door Nissan sedan the pair were riding in struck the right-shoulder guardrail on eastbound Interstate 76 and became airborne, according to a news release from the Brighton Police Department.
The car landed on its roof, in the marsh below the I-76 bridge. Fisher and the passenger sustained minor injuries.
Fisher was issued a summons for suspected drunken driving.
The impact from the sedan caused the guardrail to peel back and stretch across two lanes. A semi-trailer truck pulled up to the scene of the accident and attempted to divert traffic from the hazard in the roadway. While the driver of the truck was on the phone with emergency crews, a 29-year-old woman driving a four-door Kia smashed into the trailer.
A front wheel, doors and other parts of the vehicle were severed from the vehicle, exposing the driver’s side. The woman, who was wearing a seat belt, was ejected. Her condition was not immediately available.
