Early Tuesday morning, (leftovers) from the band’s “Heaven” sessions, reportedly planned for a Nov. 6 release as a 7-inch vinyl EP. Like the rest of May’s full-length, “Heaven,” the tracks were produced by Phil Ek in the Pacific Northwest last winter and continue the album’s theme of struggling to find acceptance in the context of a relationship’s birth, life and death.
“Dance With Your Partner” evokes Walkmen collaborators/touring mates Fleet Foxes in its complex structure — multiple tempos, delicate/staccato vocals and three unofficial “movements”. Lead singer Hamilton Leithauser has previously acknowledged an affinity for Fleet Foxes’ 2011 release, “Helplessness Blues,” claiming that the record inspired the band to work with Elk on “Heaven.” Listen to both songs below the photo gallery.
