BOULDER, Colo.—A woman who drunkenly wandered into a Colorado home before the homeowner shot her in the hip has pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal trespassing.
Her lawyer says her client may have been under the influence of a date rape drug when she wandered into the Boulder home around 3:30 a.m. May 23.
The Daily Camera reports ( ) that after pleading guilty Wednesday, she received a deferred sentence that could result in the felony being stripped from her record if she avoids another conviction in the next 18 months.
The homeowner wasn’t charged. Prosecutors said his actions were justified under Colorado’s “Make My Day” law, which allows residents to defend themselves against intruders.
This story was updated to remove the woman’s name in accordance with Denver Post policy regarding such crimes.
