Arapahoe Basin will open Wednesday, a mere 12 days after the mountain-top hill began making snow.
The Legend wins this year’s snow-blowing race to be the first resort open in Colorado, edging past perennial contender Loveland. The Black Mountain Express lift will start turning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, accessing the intermediate High Noon lift. Last year Arapahoe Basin opened on Oct. 12.

Thanks to fresh snow over the weekend, the New Zealand snowmaking team at Loveland had a strong weekend. The Kiwi crew started blowing snow on Loveland slopes on Oct. 4, about a week later than last season. said the area hopes to open next week.
