Bookings for mountain lodging this winter are essentially flat, according to a report by the .
As of Sept. 30, the report said the booked year-over-year was up 0.5 percent for the next six months (October through March) compared with the same time last year. The booking pace during September for the next six months was down 3.9 percent overall but included considerable fluctuation between the months.
“We anticipated that the positive economic news in September combined with a strong uptick in consumer confidence would be driving winter booking activity,” said Ralf Garrison, director of MTRiP. “But overall advanced reservation activity is essentially flat.”
Tom Foley, MTRiP operations director, said it appears that skiers and snowboarders are waiting for evidence of a better snow season. “They seem to be a little bit reserved. We continue to wonder whether people are in a snow hangover from the poor snowfall of last season.”
The report showed that actual occupancy for the month of September finished up 3.2 percent compared with September 2011, and that October is performing unusually well.
