The Banner hospital chain has submitted plans to the city of Fort Collins for a new hospital and medical campus, escalating once again .
While Arizona-based Banner said it is only submitting a conceptual plan and has no timetable to build, to provide hospital beds for the HMO’s northern expansion.
Banner owns McKee Medical Center in Loveland and manages North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. It’s been in a construction-and-amenities tit-for-tat with the Poudre Valley branch of University of Colorado Health, which has hospitals in Fort Collins and Loveland.
Both hospital groups have added stand-alone emergency rooms and medical offices in surrounding communities, and now compete in helicopter and other services as well.
The Coloradoan newspaper in Fort Collins first reported Banner’s filing of the plans. Banner said Wednesday the filing was part of due diligence in acquiring the land in southern Fort Collins.
“We have not decided on any specific facilities to be built at this time,” a company official said in a release.
