GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction woman who admitted poisoning her husband’s whiskey with morphine, eye drops and crushed pills has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Forty-five-year-old Deone Marie Graham of Grand Junction was sentenced Monday. She pleaded guilty in August to solicitation to commit first-degree murder ( ). Prosecutors say Graham suspected her husband was cheating on her and she wanted him dead to collect his retirement savings.
Court documents showed that Graham directed another woman to buy 2 grams of methamphetamine to poison her husband, explaining she’d heard “3 grams could kill a buffalo.” The woman was a police informant.
The husband, partially blind and sick for three days after drinking some poisoned whiskey, didn’t attend Monday’s sentencing.
