CORTEZ, Colo.—Authorities say a fire that spread after someone was burning trash on private land in southwest Colorado has prompted evacuations of about 30 homes in Montezuma County.
Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Meador (MED’-er) says the Roatcap Fire was burning on 386 acres Wednesday. It was fueled by high winds, which also kept planes and helicopters from dropping any water or retardant on the flames.
