For Gwar, every show is a Halloween show, except the actual Halloween show, which might be the biggest show of the year. The darkly comic, endearingly disgusting heavy metal band of fictitious alien warlords will land at LoDo’s Summit Music Hall on Wednesday. Past performances in Denver have left audiences covered in “blood,” among other pretend bodily fluids/organs, by show’s end. In other words, this is not a of lean-against-the-bar-while-thumbing-your-iPhone type of night. Tickets, $25-$28, are available through TicketWeb. DevilDriver, Cancer Bats and Legacy of Disorder will open the show. Don’t wear white.

The Fresh & Onlys is riding the still-forming wave of postmodern San Francisco indie-rock, and September’s “Long Slow Dance” is rightfully one of the season’s best releases. A quick comparison will come to the Bay Area’s former indie kingpins, Girls, which perfected the marriage of poppy surf rock and dour vocals. Unlike Girls’ Christopher Owens, F&Os’ Tim Cohen is less down on himself and more contemplative about the world at large. Tickets for Tuesday’s show at the Larimer Lounge, $10-$13, are available through .
