The Colorado Association of Career Colleges and Schools (CACCS) congratulated this year’s winners of the Faculty and Staff of the Year awards at the annual meeting October 12, 2012.

The Faculty of the Year winner was April Ekstrom of IBMC. Meritorious Recognition went to Charles Boyll of National American University. The Staff Member of the Year was Trudy Nelson of Denver School of Nursing. Meritorious Recognition went to Katy Little of Weston Distance Learning.

The winners were selected on the basis of their commitment, performance, leadership and professionalism. The selection committee considered their achievements, interaction with peers, extracurricular activities, participation in professional and student organizations, tutoring, mentoring and display of a positive attitude.

Private career colleges play a major role in our state’s business and economy, and they transform the lives and career opportunities of thousands of students. This year over 30,000 students will attend private occupational schools in Colorado to gain the skills necessary to remain competitive in the job market. CACCS member schools, on average, graduate 68 percent of their students and place in meaningful employment over 80 percent of those who graduate.

Nominees for Staff Member of the Year were: Tammy Alesch-Intellitec College, Linder Gendron-Heritage College, Jacqueline Gresham-Institute of Business & Medical Careers, George Huisman-Intellitec College, Vivian Jeffcoat-Westwood College North, Jane Kranz-Anthem College, Katy Little-Weston Distance Learning, Jennife r Martin-Pima Medical Institute Denver, Trudy Nelson-Denver School of Nursing, Tabitha Rowland-Westwood College South and Heather Sanders-Platt College.
