1. Heat: King James reigns as the reigning champs only got better with addition of Ray Allen.
2. Nets: Most don’t have them this high, but in an unpredictable conference (aside from Miami’s perch), this lineup is powerful.
3. Pacers: A plucky group that made strides in the postseason last spring.
4. Knicks: Is this the year Carmelo Anthony wins his first playoff series in the East?
5. Celtics: Rajon Rondo is an elite point guard, but the group around him is aging and the depth is suspect.
6. Bulls: How healthy Derrick Rose is upon his midseason return will determine a lot about the Bulls.
7. Hawks: The Hawks have been hovering around the middle of the East for years, but now they’re freeing cap space.
8. 76ers: Andrew Bynum could become an elite center. Or he could remain a guy with glimpses of greatness.
9. Bucks: Credit coach Scott Skiles for getting the most out of his small-market lineup.
10. Raptors: A fun young bunch could flirt with the eighth spot — but probably not.
11. Pistons: Players such as Greg Monroe grew into their games last season. Still young, though.
12. Cavaliers: Kyrie Irving could win the award as best player on a nonplayoff team.
13. Wizards: John Wall is hurt, Nene is Nene, and, wait, who else is on their team?
14. Magic: Starting over means starting at the bottom.
15. Bobcats: Former Metro State coach Mike Dunlap will change the culture, but maybe not the outcome of games.
