U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Denver, handily won a ninth term representing the heavily Democratic 1st Congressional District.

At press time, DeGette was leading Republican Danny Stroud, by 68.3 percent of the vote to Stroud’s 27.3 percent, with 8 percent of precincts reporting.

The 55-year-old attorney was first elected to Congress in 1996 after the retirement of Democratic Congresswoman Pat Schroeder.

In a prepared statement, DeGette said she was “proud to be able to continue to bring our shared Western values to Washington and keep fighting for you everyday.”
