COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A new panhandling law in Colorado Springs will prohibit the El Paso County Salvation Army from bell ringing downtown.
The Gazette reports ( ) that the new law that received initial approval Tuesday will affect one downtown site. Sixty other sites are unaffected.
The El Paso County Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign raised $68,000 last year and accounts for about 15 percent of the organization’s income. Money raised from donations goes to help homeless and low-income residents.
