DENVER—The lawyer taking over prosecution of the Colorado theater shooting case says it will be a priority but he won’t rush the case.
Republican George Brauchler was elected last month to replace the term-limited Carol Chambers. He told Denver’s KMGH-TV ( ) that a “slow process is a better process” in a case where the government may pursue the death penalty.
Twenty-four-year-old James Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and wounding dozens of others inside an Aurora theater on July 20. He hasn’t entered a plea yet.
Brauchler is a former military prosecutor. He takes office Jan. 8, the day after the beginning of a weeklong hearing to determine if Holmes will stand trial.
