A woman was killed Thursday evening by a hit-and-run driver as she was crossing Leetsdale Drive.

Denver police said the incident happened about 6:07 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Leetsdale, just west of East Mississippi Avenue and just before Leetsdale becomes Parker Road.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said officers are looking for a silver or grey Buick, perhaps an Enclave SUV, in connection with the incident. There may be some damage to the front end of the vehicle.

They believe a driver moved into the center turning lane during rush-hour traffic at a high rate of speed, striking the pedestrian who was walking north, possibly from a bus stop.

The age and name of the victim is not known at this time.

The intersection was still closed more than two hours after the accident.
