Here are Reverb’s best concerts for the week of 12/28/12-01/03/13. The list includes the Lumineers, the Black Angels, STS9 and more.

5) STS9, Dec. 29-31, Fillmore Auditorium, $89.75-$170.55

An concert is the closest thing one can get to stepping into the “Tron” world. The neon lights and mix of electronic and live instrumentation is a near-fictional dose of man-meets-machine mania. This type of sensory overload has gained STS9 acclaim for its live performances. As the band did in 2009 and 2010, it will bring electronic trances and the best light show in the industry to Colorado for three nights leading up to and including New Year’s Eve. Tickets for shows on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Fillmore Auditorium sell for $89.75. A pass for all three days costs $170.55. livenation.com.

4) Yonder Mountain String Band, Dec. 28-31, Boulder Theatre, SOLD OUT

This one is for everyone who wants to have a mellow New Year’s Eve, maybe hear a little bit of banjo, relax and stay up just long enough to see 2013. Yeah won’t be a wild show, but it will definitely be the place to be for any bluegrass fans. That’s probably why it’s already sold out – all three days. Hey you have a full 365 days to party why waste it all at an electronic concert?

3) The Black Angels, Dec. 30-31, the Bluebird Theater, $29

Choosing a concert to go to this week pretty much hinges on what tone you want to end 2012 with/start 2013 with. So, if mid-temp, psychedelic grooves is the mood for you to start/end the year, then the is the show for you. The best part is with tickets at only $29 it’s more reasonably priced and less sold out than other shows.

2) 3OH!3, the Epilogues, Chain Gang of 1974, Dec. 31, the Gothic Theatre, $30

Ok, is not a good band, but that doesn’t mean this concert won’t be super fun. If this band can do one thing right it’s create a total, ridiculous party atmosphere. I mean, the poster for this show has the word “party” twice. And isn’t that all anyone wants to do on New Year’s Eve? Anyway, it’s nice to support some local bands, with the Chain Gang of 1974, the Epilogues and My Body Sings Electric opening — they like to party, too.

1) The Lumineers, Dec 30-31, Ogden Theatre, SOLD OUT

Complete with Grammy nominations, an invite to play on “Saturday Night Live” and a whirlwind of commercial success, are topping off a spectacular 2012 with two concerts in the state it calls home. The Colorado folk group plays the Ogden Theatre on Sunday and Monday, where the crowd and band each have something to celebrate. Unfortunately both nights have been sold out for awhile now, but for a show that promises this much positive energy, it might be worth getting some tickets secondhand. Your call: Tickets were selling for $250 on craigslist as of press time. Great local openers include Nathaniel Rateliff on Sunday and Paper Bird on Monday.
