If you’re flying to Birmingham Airport in England, fasten your seatbelts, because the airport could see a hardcore makeover soon and you might be in for a bumpy ride.
Birthplace of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, Birmingham is located between London and Liverpool — the site of the John Lennon Airport, named after the famous Beatle. But now there is a call to rename the Birmingham Airport after Osbourne.
Wanting to rename the airport is Jim Simpson, boss of Big Bear Music in England, who first signed Black Sabbath in the 1970s.
Speaking to the about his desire for the change, Simpson said, “How does The Ozzy Osbourne International Airport resonate? The message that would carry is instantly international, confident, powerful, unforgettable and says ‘Hey World, we are proud of our own’. Ozzy might not always have been a paragon of virtue, but he is a genuine flesh and blood Brummie.”
The Birmingham Mail also reports Birmingham councilor Phillip Parkin is receptive to the plan, telling the paper, “Itap an interesting idea and I’ve got an open mind but I think something like that would need to be consulted on fairly widely because itap a significant part of our infrastructure.”
Black Sabbath is set for a big new year, with the band finishing work on a new studio album. Earlier this year, Osbourne revealed he has written 15 songs for the album, due for release in April 2013.
