‘s incorrigible 1990s no-goodnik feel is part of what makes his music so charming. play out like he and his band just stumbled from the garage into their first paying gig, subbing artistic bravado for goofing and strange crowd banter.

So when DeMarco tells the Onion’s A/V Club that he and his band just learned ‘s “Sweater Song” on the drive down, you can’t help but smile a little. Then they start playing, and you believe it.

DeMarco’s take on the Weezer mainstay is characteristically ragtag, and it sort of works. It harkens back to Weezer’s heydays, when ripped jeans and alt-rock ruled the land. In Mac DeMarco’s world, those days may have yet to pass.
