SOMERSET, Colo.—Officials hope to reopen the Elk Creek coal mine that left about 340 workers idled after the mine was closed on Jan. 9 when elevated levels of carbon monoxide were detected.

Oxbow Mining president Jim Cooper says the company plans to seal off almost two-thirds of the mine to cut off the oxygen supply and stop the air contamination.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ), some of the workers are returning return to their jobs to help with reopening the mine in central Colorado.
