Douglas County-based Dish Network has been studying whether to offer Dish-branded home security, conducting focus groups to gauge consumer interest in purchasing such services from a pay-TV provider.
Comcast, the nation’s largest cable-TV company and Dish’s chief competitor in Colorado, launched in Denver last year.
During a focus-group session held in the metro area last month, attendees were shown and asked whether they would buy the service from Dish.
The satellite-TV provider would resell the service through a third-party company called Vivint.
Analysts have said Comcast’s move into home security is largely focused on locking consumers into an additional service, making them less likely to jump ship after the promotional pricing period expires on their broadband and pay-TV services.
