Denver Public Schools has received a $3 million federal grant that will expand early college experience for students in 10 schools.
On Thursday, DPS received an Investing in Innovation grant from the U.S. Department of Education through a partnership with the lead grantee, Jobs for the Future, a non-profit organization in Boston, according to the district.
“We have seen hundreds more of our students graduating from DPS in the past several years,” said DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg in a news release. “This investment will help us make sure those students are prepared for the next step in their post-secondary education once they graduate.”
The grant will be used over five years to expand the early college experience model — a chance to complete a semester to two years of college — at no cost to families, according to the district.
“The program will expand the number of Denver schools that work with local colleges to help all students get a head start on earning college degrees and credentials leading to good jobs,” Antwan Wilson, DPS assistant superintendent of Post-Secondary Readiness said in a the release.
Ten schools will be chosen through a competitive application process later this semester to take part in the program.
