Long-time music therapist, Patti Catalano, thought about going back to get her master’s degree for years. She wasn’t in a position to relocate, which meant she was always looking into local programs that could augment her
experience.

“There’s no master’s in music therapy in my area, and nothing seemed to be quite the right fit,” she explained.

She came across the on-campus program at Colorado State University and looked at it longingly, thinking how perfect it would be. Then, at a music therapy conference, she heard through the grapevine that CSU was working on taking that program online, “so I wanted for it to happen,” she said, “and when the announcement came through, I applied that following January.”

Colorado State University’s online Music Therapy program worked for Patti for the same reason the programs work for many students. “I don’t have to move,” she explains. “I can do it at my own pace, and I could also do it within my own timeframe at home.”

In addition to the Master of Music in Music Therapy, Colorado State University OnlinePlus offers two other niche, music-based, hybrid programs that feature an online curriculum complemented with exclusive on-campus, hands-on workshops and sessions.

  • Master of Music, Music Education, Conducting Specialization: Prepares you for more competitive, combined teaching positions with a curriculum that covers band, orchestra and choir; allows you to use your own schools’ programs as a conducting laboratory throughout the degree’s coursework; and exclusive participation in the annual two-week seminar held on the CSU campus each summer.

  • Master of Music, Music Education Specialization, Kodály Option: Designed for elementary, secondary, and independent music educators; graduates are equipped with not only a M.M., but also national Kodály certification, giving you a unique edge in the job market; and participation in the annual Colorado Kodály Institute as an exclusive two-week residency each summer which includes applied course sessions taught by some of the most prestigious music pedagogues from around the country.

OnlinePlus also offers the completely on-campus Dalcroze Eurhythmics Academy, one of the nation’s only authorized Dalcroze training programs.
