There’s a reason the touched such a nerve when it released “Give Up” 10 years ago. The group’s jittery, feel-good songs evoked something special on the inside. And they’re keeping that true as they move forward with the , which includes multiple festival dates and a dressed-up reissue of “Give Up” on Sub Pop.
The reissue of “Give Up” will include the new Postal Service song “A Tattered Line of String,” which you can hear below.
It goes without saying: This new jam is no “Such Great Heights” or “We Will Become Silhouettes.” Hell, itap not even a “Recycled Air.” But new Postal Service material is still new Postal Service material, and what kind of reunion would it be if Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello didn’t give us something we hadn’t heard before?
“A Tattered Line of String” has Tamborello’s signature digitized work lifting Gibbard’s earnest vocals to a familiar platform. The song is jittery, yes. But itap hardly memorable.
Is that Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley) singing back-ups in there? Yes, it is – not that you’d be able to tell without us already knowing she was guesting on the track.
The “Give Up” reissue, celebrating the iconic record’s 10th anniversary, will be released on April 9.
