Who: Sarianna Murphy of Denver

The cause: American Lung Association

The feat: Murphy plans to run the 1,098 steps at the Feb. 24, raising a dollar for each step.

The story: Sarianna’s father, Michael Murphy, was diagnosed with idiopathic interstitial lung disease (ILD), an aggressive form that causes irreversible lung scarring, in August of 2011. He passed away Oct. 24 that same year.

“He was a feisty, talented, unique and supportive husband and father,” Sarianna says. “He had the gift of writing and music, and a creative sense of humor that could make anyone laugh no matter what time of day or mood. He lived his life as an adventure.”

Sarianna, an avid mountain climber, hopes to honor her father’s spirit and raise awareness about ILD through the stair climbing event.
