WESTMINSTER, Colo.—Police suspect drugs or alcohol may have contributed to a fatal wrong way crash that closed a Denver-area highway during the morning rush hour.
U.S. 36 was shut down for about five hours Wednesday after a Ford sport utility vehicle that authorities say was going the wrong way crashed head on into an Acura coupe in Westminster before 3 a.m.
Police say SUV passenger Vincent Michael James Gibson of Broomfield was killed, and SUV driver Britni June Bunn of Broomfield was taken to a hospital.
Two people in the Acura also were taken to the hospital.
The crash came a day after a bus driver made a wrong turn into a one-way, high-speed traffic lane on Interstate 25 during rush hour in the Denver area. No one was hurt.
