GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A former Girl Scout troop co-leader has pleaded guilty to taking money collected from her troop’s annual cookie fundraiser.
The Daily Sentinel reports ( ) Carmen Wysong pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony theft and violation of probation. She is scheduled to be sentenced May 20. Deputy District Attorney Jason Conley says Wysong will be asked to pay $4,807 in restitution.
The investigation began when Wysong reported last year that a bag with cash from Grand Junction Troop 12671 was missing. An arrest affidavit says she later told a Mesa County sheriff’s investigator she had spent about $6,000 in cookie cash on her personal expenses.
At the time, she was serving probation following a conviction for being an accessory to a crime in 2007.
The Girl Scout troop has disbanded.
