It’s a place of escape: the smell of popcorn, the slightly sticky floors, the darkness and the film playing on the big screen.
Cañon City soon may lose four of its big screens when changes in the movie industry will force the closure of Creekside Cinema.
“Life as we know it in the film industry will be over,” said Linda Epperson, whose family, owns the theater.
The movie industry is shifting from distributing movies on film to distributing strictly digital copies to theaters. Epperson said it would cost $70,000 to $80,000 to upgrade each screen in Creekside to digital projection.
“I wish we could convert,” she said. “I wish we could. We’re hoping for a miracle.”
