
Jonathan Morse scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Demetrius Miller added 20 points, and Metro State used a 26-15 run in the final 7:23 to defeat Colorado Christian 87-75 on Tuesday night in a first-round game of the Rocky Mountain Shootout at the Auraria Event Center.
Brandon Jefferson scored 14 and Nicholas Kay had 13 as the Roadrunners, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, will host a semifinal game Friday against Colorado Mesa.
The Roadrunners (25-2) went 30-of-60 from the field, including 4-for-12 from behind the arc, and outrebounded the Cougars 35-27.
Metro State also scored 44 points in the paint compared with 24 for Colorado Christian.
Kyle Weaver scored 16 points and Josh McBeth added 15 to pace the Cougars (15-16).
Fort Lewis 84, Colorado Mines 70 (OT) • DURANGO — The Orediggers (15-12) rallied from an 11-point deficit with 3:44 remaining to force overtime, but the 22nd-ranked Skyhawks (20-6) dominated the extra period after falling behind on Ruben Jackson’s 3-pointer with 4:26 to go.
Colorado Mesa 74, CSU-Pueblo 65 • PUEBLO — Colton Burgon scored 21 points, and Jeff Hart added 20 for the Mavericks (17-9).
Women
Metro State never trailed as it defeated Colorado Mines 75-55 to advance to the semifinals.
Metro State (20-8) was led by Amy Nelson’s 18 points, with 16 points from Emily Wood.
Colorado Mesa 74, Regis 50 • GRAND JUNCTION — Kelsey Sigl had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Katrina Selsor and Bruna Deichmann each added 10 points to power the Mavericks (26-1).
Fort Lewis 78, CSU-Pueblo 67 • DURANGO — The Skyhawks (18-9) never were seriously threatened by the ThunderWolves (18-9) after going on a 14-0 run that turned a 29-all tie into a 43-29 lead.
