Join The Denver Post from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 28 as we kick off the 2013 garden season with “Local Roots, Global Shoots,” a free evening of talks from Colorado gardening and plant experts.

You’ll hear how vegetable gardens benefit everyone in your community; about plants that are easy and beautiful and can take what Colorado dishes out; how to survive the 2013 growing season; and how gardening circles the globe. The event will be in The Denver Post Auditorium at 101 W. Colfax Ave.

Among the speakers: Jodi Torpey, author, founder of and coordinator for Plant-a-Row for the Hungry; Carol O’Meara, garden columnist and horticulture entomologist; Pat Hayward, executive director of Plant Select; and Sarada Krishnan, horticulture director of the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Enjoy light refreshments and plenty of mingling. It’s all free, but you need to register at . The first 50 people to register score a free Plant-a-Row for the Hungry starter kit.
