 Jeff Ackermann has been named director of the , Gov. John Hickenlooper said Tuesday.

Ackermann leads researchs at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, focusing on issues ranging from electric system planning to the effective use of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Prior to that, he was manager of the low-income programs at the state’s energy office.

Ackermann takes over an office that has recently come under fire for not adequately controlling its programs and being unable able to show they were cost-effective. and had inadequate performance data for six of eight programs reviewed.

The audit was requested by Hickenlooper and Tanju “TJ” Deora, who was appointed director of the office by Hickenlooper in 2011, according to Denise Stepto of the Colorado Energy Office.
