CENTENNIAL, Colo.—A judge is denying a New York-based reporter’s request to delay a hearing where she’s been ordered to testify about her sources for a story on Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes.
Judge William Sylvester on Wednesday denied Jana Winter’s request to delay the hearing set for Monday while she asks a New York court to overturn a subpoena requiring her to appear.
Winter cited unnamed law-enforcement officials in a FoxNews.com report that Holmes had sent a psychiatrist drawings that foreshadowed the July 20 theater attack, which killed 12 and injured 70. Holmes’ lawyers contend the law-enforcement officials would’ve been violating a gag order by speaking to Winter. They want to know her sources.
Winter’s lawyer argues that New York’s “shield law” allows her to keep her sources confidential.
