NUCLA, Colo.—The town of Nucla is hoping to get a reputation for something other than mining uranium.
The town is desperate for local jobs and state lawmakers are trying to determine if the community can bring in a casino. Some residents say they are traveling long distances to jobs in other communities.
According to KJCT-TV ( ), town officials aren’t confident they can get it done. The state currently limits casinos to the mining towns of Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central City.
A proposal for a uranium and vanadium mill near Nucla is still under consideration.
