Pay only for the shipping you need

If you’re ordering something online and want it in a hurry, you’re likely to pay a little extra for expedited shipping. But as productivity blog Lifehacker points out ( ), you might be able to with the help of delivery time maps.

You’ll need to know the ZIP code where the shipment will originate, as well as who’s doing the delivery — UPS and FedEx both have delivery time maps. Viewing the FedEx Ground service map, I can see that something originating in Boston should take four days to get to Colorado. A shipment from Austin, on the other hand could conceivably get to many parts of Colorado within just two days — so I probably wouldn’t pay a premium for faster delivery.
