Classical Music
Good value:
When and where: The season finale is April 26, but there are five concerts a year, all at the at 1340 Sherman St. in Capitol Hill.
How much: $20
The deal: OK, let’s start with the math. If you get an orchestra ticket for $20 and there are 60 musicians performing that night, you’re paying them only 33 cents apiece. Just 33 cents for a human being, with years of lessons and concerts on their résumé, giving you an entire evening of their talent. And kids under 12 are free.
has a casual vibe that matches its down-home pricing. The lights stay on, people move around. The Phil has even experimented with encouraging people to Tweet during performances. (Try that at Boettcher Concert Hall and they off cut off your hand.) The programming, conducted by music director , can sometimes be too ambitious for a part-time ensemble, but these are hard-working musicians. and they play to please.
