ASPEN, Colo.—Pitkin County commissioners plan to appeal the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s decision to suspend 25 oil and gas leases in the Thompson Divide.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said Tuesday it was granting a request from SG Interests and Ursa Resources Group to suspend the leases. That pauses a 10-year deadline for the companies to develop the leases, which were sold in 2003 and 2004.
Assistant County Attorney Chris Seldin tells the Glenwood Springs Post Independent () that he was told Tuesday to begin work on an appeal, which would ask Colorado BLM Director Helen Hankins to reverse the decision.
Pitkin County is among parties that had wanted the BLM to let the leases expire to protect the area from more drilling.
