BRIGHTON, Colo.—Adams County sheriff’s officials are acknowledging they mistakenly released a man who should’ve been turned over to the Colorado Department of Corrections.
Sheriff Doug Darr told KMGH-TV in Denver on Thursday ( ) that he has no excuses to offer in the premature release of Juan Flores. Darr says officials are working to ensure a similar mistake isn’t made again.
KMGH reports Flores was on parole for a stabbing in Montrose in 2006 but had been an absconder, eluding his parole officer, since December 2011. The Denver Post reports he was arrested last December on suspicion of driving under the influence and in January on suspicion of assault.
Sheriff’s officials say Flores was inappropriately released April 15 after an employee misinterpreted paperwork.
