BRIGHTON, Colo.—A judge has sentenced a woman to 42 years in prison in the death of her 7-month-old son, whose body was found in a Denver-area landfill last year.
Sharrieckia Page also was sentenced Friday to serve five years of parole after completing her prison term. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in March.
Prosecutors say Page’s son was suffocated, then thrown in the trash. Commerce City police started looking for the boy after relatives expressed concern about his welfare.
Prosecutors say Page had repeatedly threatened to kill her baby.
Defense attorneys say Page was living in poverty when the child was born, and Page had sought help for postpartum depression.
KUSA-TV in Denver reports ( ) Page asked for forgiveness during her sentencing hearing.
