With Meritage’s super-sustainable homes disappearing fast, a chance for nearby setting with one-quarter-acre sites, walkouts

Getting your player ready...

Nothing captures the nanosecond pace of the new-home market this spring as the speed at which Meritage Homes is selling its super-sustainable homes in the southeast suburbs.

Meritage at Sorrel Ranch, sold out; at HorseShoe Ridge and at Canterberry, sold out; at Tallyn’s Reach, near-sold-out – and that explains why you shouldn’t be waiting for models to be finished before you come see what Meritage is opening at Rocking Horse, in the rolling countryside between Aurora and Parker.
Rocking Horse is five minutes from Aurora Reservoir with its beach and trails, closer still to well-rated Douglas County schools in Parker and wrapped by the edge of the Black Forest. The two models (including a ranch) won’t be done for a month; won’t even be far enough along for a dusty-boot tour until next Saturday (the 18th at 10 a.m.) – but if you want a big home site, maybe one with finished space on a walkout level, you need to be looking at this today.

“These are huge sites compared to what you’re used to seeing,” says Tamara Bond, who’ll be with Alice Mariano today to show you lots that average one-quarter acre – some as large as 17,000 square feet. Some of those back to Rocking Horse community open space, and to a terrific park you can see beside the models, with inline skating rink, tennis courts and a big kids’ playground. They’re also sized for Meritage to offer a standard three-car tandem garage on every home.

That goes better still on a dramatic Ellingwood 3,306-foot, four-bedroom/three-bath home that Meritage has under way for August delivery – with a two-car garage facing a third carriage-style garage bay; terrific entertaining, dining and master-suite spaces; upstairs laundry; and a gourmet kitchen upgraded with granite, stainless and hardwood floors that span most of the main floor level. It’s priced at $472,456.

You can see other plans from $349,990, all with Meritage’s energy package – much better insulation and air-leakage performance than typical homes can deliver; along with water conservation and better air quality. You can still tour a “deconstructed” model of the system at nearby Tallyn’s Reach. And if you want to reach even further for sustainability, Meritage has an option for solar electric panels (you’ll already see them on the model).

Rocking Horse is 1 mile east of E-470 at Gartrell Road, the exit between Smoky Hill and Parker roads. From E-470, take Gartrell south 1.2 mile to Rockinghorse Parkway, turn right 2 blocks, then left at the park; or from Parker, take Lincoln Avenue east to Pine Drive, then north to Inspiration and east 2 miles to Rockinghorse.
