Song after song, Dawes delivers music with such familiarity that you would swear you’ve been listening to it your entire life. And at the Gothic Theatre on Sunday, chances are you had heard this music at least a few times during the long holiday weekend. Dawes ended a three-day run in Colorado, which included a stop at northern Colorado’s scenic Mishawaka Amphitheatre and Meadowgrass Music Festival near Colorado Springs.

The Los Angeles foursome is made up of brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, who are joined by bassist Wylie Gelber and keyboardist Tay Strathairn. On Sunday this group, comfortable with Colorado by now, had the entire crowd singing along.

Their brand of “peaceful, easy” music pays tribute to the desert rock that rose from the West in the 1970s. Frontman Taylor Goldsmith’s voice is a dead ringer for Jackson Browne, and the music gives nods to the piano and guitar work of the Eagles.

The three-part harmonies of the Goldsmith brothers and Gelber stole the show on songs such as “Fire Away” (“Nothing is Wrong,” 2011) and “Someone Will” (“Stories Don’t End,” 2013).

The night was a special one for them. “This is the largest headlining Dawes crowd we’ve ever played to,” Taylor said. And the crowd even had his back when he forgot entire stanzas of “Just My Luck” toward the end of the show.

“Wow, that’s the sign of a great audience,” he said after the audience had joined in. “You were all there to help me recover! Thank you.”
